Applications of

Coconut Shell Charcoal

The applications of activated carbon from coal are also present in coconut shell activated carbon. Coconut shell activated carbon is suitable for use in water sources with low TOC (total organic carbon) levels. In gas/vapor filtration, coconut shell activated carbon also has an advantage in adsorbing VOCs (volatile organic compounds), especially light molecular weight organic compounds.

However, coconut shell activated carbon is less effective than coal-based activated carbon in treating surface water with high TOC, wastewater treatment, or decolorization. Coal-based activated carbon is more effective in treating heavy molecular weight organic compounds.

Advantages of

Coconut Shell Charcoal

in Water Filtration

This product meets quality standards and can be applied in wastewater treatment and clean water supply projects. Coconut shell charcoal has a more porous structure and smaller pores compared to coal-based charcoal.

Therefore, it has a larger surface area and can filter out small-sized turbidity-causing components. Additionally, due to its high hardness, coconut shell charcoal is less likely to break and produces less dust than coal-based charcoal.

Production Process of

Activated Carbon

from Coconut Shells

  • Selection and Classification of Raw Materials: To ensure high-quality charcoal, mature, clean, and low-moisture coconut shells are selected.
  • Carbonization Process: The coconut shells undergo carbonization in an anaerobic kiln at extremely high temperatures (over 1000°C) based on Binchotan charcoal production technology, which removes moisture, volatile substances, and impurities from the coconut shells.
  • Grinding and Shaping: The finished coconut shell charcoal is ground and crushed to uniform sizes. The charcoal is then pressed into molds with strong pressure from machinery.
