What is Coaldust?

Mixed charcoal is a type of charcoal with a non-uniform composition, consisting of various fragments and impurities, produced from different organic materials. Unlike high-quality charcoal, mixed charcoal is typically not thoroughly processed or refined, resulting in unstable quality and carbon content. Mixed charcoal can include a wide range of components, from sawdust, dry leaves, and straw to softwoods, bark, and even agricultural by-products.

Characteristics of Mixed Charcoal

Mixed charcoal has several distinctive characteristics:

  • Low cost: Due to being produced from abundant and easily available raw materials, the production cost of mixed charcoal is much lower than that of high-quality charcoal.
  • Easy to produce: The production process of mixed charcoal does not require advanced technology; it can be carried out using manual methods or simple kilns.
  • Lower carbon content: Mixed charcoal typically has a low carbon content because it contains many impurities and is not refined.
  • Easily flammable with low heat output: Compared to refined charcoal types, mixed charcoal ignites easily but generates low heat output and has a short burning duration.

Uses of Mixed Charcoal

Mixed charcoal is widely used in various fields due to its low cost and ease of production:

  • Common fuel: Mixed charcoal is often used in household stoves, especially in rural areas, for cooking or boiling water.
  • Small-scale industries: Small industries, such as ceramics and handicrafts, can use mixed charcoal as fuel for kilns due to their moderate heat requirements.
  • Environmental treatment: Mixed charcoal can be used for soil improvement and as a filtering material in wastewater treatment, thanks to its ability to absorb and retain organic substances and heavy metals.
  • Production of activated charcoal: Some mixed charcoal, after being treated and refined, can be used as a raw material for producing activated charcoal, which is used in water filtration, deodorization, and applications in the chemical and medical industries.
